A invenção do Brasil no mito fundador da Umbanda

Esse artigo procura contribuir na discussão da suposta criação da Umbanda, religião Afro-brasileira, no início do século XX na Cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Toma por base a história que circula em parte do meio umbandista de Zélio de Morais. A partir dessa história, aqui analisada como um mito, busca-se sinalizar para a contextualização história da Macumba em início do século XX. A partir de alguns vetores históricos como a influência do cientificismo europeu no Brasil, da passagem da Monarquia à República e o fim da escravidão é procurado demonstrar os elementos constitutivos desse mito em que grau ele se desdobra na realidade histórica das casas religiosas de Umbanda e/ou Macumba. O campo teórico é estabelecido no diálogo da História Cultural com a Antropologia Cultural.Downloads
