Abstract

In the 1960s, in Brazil, several organizations of the called New Leftwere formed. Among all these organizations, the one that most admitted women in their militant position, including in positions of leadership, it was Popular Action. In this article we seek to investigate some causes of female inclusion in thispolitical environment, mainly with regard to the ideological and symbolic elements adopted by the Catholic Church up to that time. One of our hypotheses justifies such insertion in the ideological passage from Marianism to Christocentrism, in Brazilian Catholic Action from 1935 until the first half of the 1960s.
