Abstract

This article aims to present some general characteristics of the Brazilian labor movement, their quarrels, struggles and difficulties in the years comprise the First Republic (1889-1930). To fill the loco of working disorganization at the beginning of the century, due to late industrialization of the country, is founded within the First Workers Congress, the Brazilian Workers Confederation (COB), this in turn contributed greatly to the labor movement and its struggles. It will also discuss the role of the working press in the period, especially which linked the ideals of anarchism. In this context, we will prioritize the analysis of the anarchist newspaper “The Mob", precisely in the period between June and October of 1917, months that focused a profound shaking of workers by Brazil, which culminated in the great general strike of 1917.
