Abstract

: In this work, I analyze the controversy surrounding the origin of the inhabitants of the Americas, particularly the hypotheses about the arrival of human and non-human populations in the New World. To this end, works composed by chroniclers, cosmographers, philosophers, official explorers of European maritime empires, cartographers, doctors, and naturalists will be used, who sought to answer or even hypothesize about the arrival of the natives and the animals that lived in the New World when the colonists and explorers landed on these lands. One of the central points of this discussion is the study of the interference of climate in the distribution of living beings across the earth, as well as environmental phenomena, such as the deluge, which were essential for some biogeographical hypotheses of the early modern period.
