Abstract

Muito já se discutiu sobre as dificuldades de se operacionalizar, mensurar e representar o conceito de vulnerabilidade. Houve, entretanto, nas últimas décadas significativos avanços no que se chama ciência da vulnerabilidade, no que diz respeito à sua operacionalização e seu uso na definição de espaços diferenciados quanto às condições sociais e à susceptibilidade de determinados grupos sociais aos perigos ambientais. Para efeito de viabilidade operacional do conceito de vulnerabilidade, dadas as suas complexidade e multidimensionalidade, e na tentativa de traduzir padrões socioespaciais na distribuição dos perigos naturais, escolheu-se como recorte espacial para este estudo de caso, a bacia hidrográfica do rio Maranguapinho, localizada na Região Metropolitana
de Fortaleza.
