Abstract

Outra concepção de cidade emerge e um novo espaço urbano se estrutura com base no discurso médico neo-hipocrático dominante no século XIX. A difusão de teorias médicas, de hábitos, de valores entre a população e os governantes teve efeitos significativos na ordenação das cidades brasileiras, em especial na cidade de Fortaleza. Tratados de Higiene Pública sugerem normas de construção, repercutindo nos Códigos de Posturas, legislações e nas práticas administrativas. A Geografia Histórica e Cultural tem contribuído para compreender o papel das ideias e do impacto das mudanças de mentalidade para a geração de novas configurações territoriais e paisagens geográficas.
