Abstract

Seeking to demonstrate the importance of postgraduate courses in Geography in general, based on the Postgraduate Program in Geography at the Federal University of Maranhão, this work presents a broad overview of the actions and social impacts developed within it. Thus, through extensive documentary research of experiences and dissertations, as well as journals and books in the field, the great relevance of the program at various scales is evident, since a federal university in the state of Maranhão manages to reach a specific student audience that concentrates a large extent of scientific and cultural knowledge in this unique state of Brazil.
