The expansion of sesame (Sesamum indicum) sowing in Brazil is hampered by problems related to weed management. Therefore, the aim was to evaluate the selectivity of herbicides applied in post-emergence in sesame, as well as the productive response of the crop to weed control. First, the behavior of sesame for different herbicides was evaluated. Subsequently, the culture was subjected to different doses of the herbicide of greater selectivity (sethoxydim). In the field, the effect of weeds on the crop was verified through treatments: control, mechanical weeding and sethoxydim herbicide. The variables evaluated were phytotoxicity at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after treatment (DAT), shoot dry weight, plant height, the weight of one thousand seeds, and productivity. Imazethapyr, mesotrione, bentazon, carfentrazone-ethyl and 2,4-D, when applied in postemergence, are not selective for sesame. Sethoxydim was selective between doses 220.8 - 883.2 g a.i. ha-1, however it did not provide productive gains.Downloads
