We conducted a economic analysis of a commercial fish farm, in Aquidauana-MS, for lambaris (Astyanax lacustris) production system marketed as live bait. In this study case, the lambaris, weighted 2g on average, were stocked in 0.24 ha, with low stocking density (7 fish.m-²). For tree months, two scenarios were simulated: (1) increase in stocking density for 50 fish.m-² with three cycles per year and (2) lambari sales price of R$ 0.50/unit (retail) and R$ 0.32/unit (wholesale). The total production cost was estimated at R$15,379.63 and animal acquisition was the highest share in cost (52%). The net profit was R$ 22,972.18/ha/year in scenario 1, R$ 111,227.63 in scenario 2, and, R$ 26,627.63/ha/year for the wholesale price, showing an attractive and economically viable market for lambaricultures.
