Abstract

Alternaria brown spot (ABS), caused by the fungus Alternaria alternata, is a limiting disease in tangerine (Citrus reticulata) cultivation. Thus, the aim of this work was to evaluate the spatial distribution of ABS and verify its relationship with soil fertility through geostatistics. The experimental area comprised 4.23 ha, where 43 sample points were georeferenced, spaced in a regular grid of 30 x 30 m. At each georeferenced point, the severity of ABS and soil fertility were evaluated. Using the kriging maps, the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) was found to be greater in areas with higher levels of potassium and manganese. Also, it was observed that in areas with lower values of pH, Ca/K ratio and percentage of Ca in the CTC, there were higher values of AUDPC. Therefore, nutrient imbalance in the soil increases the severity of alternaria brown spot on mandarin.
