Abstract

This article resumes the evolution of the debate on international security in the process of analyzing how the so-called Critical Schools of Security are articulated. Through this reconstruction, which initially analyzes the traditional perspectives of Strategic Studies so it can comprehend the current critical studies, it is intended to assess the merits of such new approaches. In this sense, it is noteworthy some of the intentions proposed by the schools that disrupt the traditionalism of Security Studies; there are some insufficiencies, however, that come forward in terms of deeper criticism. The article proposes the main problem is still the existence of a security agenda’s blindness in relation to the Global South, specifically in Latin America. Finally, a critique of critique is proposed, in which a deeper, metatheoretical understanding is advocated for those concerned with understanding  Latin American’s security dynamics.
