CALL FOR PAPERS "SPECIAL ISSUE AMAZON, SITE OF STRUGGLES AND REFLECTIONS

There are many "Amazons" in the Amazon. The complexity of the Pan-Amazonian territory lies in its political and sociocultural specificities, interconnected by transnational or global phenomena. The region is marked by profound social inequalities, capital-intensive megaprojects and human rights violations.  On the other hand, it has its own conceptions of development. It is a space for unique ways of life, resistance and the invention of alternatives, including those that stem from the perspectives of political and legal theorizing. In short, the Amazon is a stage for social struggles and transformation, where political and economic interests are in dispute; all invite further reflection on the future of the region, in terms of democracy, sustainability, legitimacy and rights.  Considering this scenario, this Special Issue seeks to open a space for the discussion of contemporary Amazonia, with an emphasis on the agency of the various types of actors and thinkers located there.
